Nkong Football for Peace 2025: Building Unity Beyond the Pitch

In partnership with Nkong Cultural Development Association (NCUDA) and the ROBOGA Organization, the 2025 Nkong Football for Peace Tournament has come to a successful close, leaving behind not just memories of great goals and celebrations but also lasting lessons in unity, resilience, and peacebuilding.

Over the course of six weeks (July – mid-August 2025), the tournament brought together 15 teams (10 male and 5 female) representing all 22 villages of the Nkong Fondom. More than just football, the event created a safe space where youth, displaced persons, community leaders, and young women played side by side, promoting dialogue, trust, and social cohesion.

Some of the key highlights included:

  • 180 at-risk youth equipped with leadership, teamwork, and non-violent conflict resolution skills.

  • Direct engagement of over 2,000 community members, fostering belonging, dialogue, and cooperation.

  • For the first time, 5 women’s teams competed alongside men, challenging stereotypes and amplifying women’s voices in peacebuilding.

  • A boost to the local economy, with vendors, photographers, and small businesses benefiting from increased activity.

The tournament showed that football is more than a game; it is a powerful tool to prevent youth radicalization, support trauma healing, and build bridges across divides.

As we look ahead, preparations for the 2026 edition are already underway. Together, we can amplify this impact, reach more young people, and foster peace in our communities.
